Contemporary Glass Art

The collection of contemporary glass art at our museum in Vledder focuses mainly on European glass art made after 1945, with works primarily originating from the Netherlands, France, Italy, Poland and the Scandinavian countries. The glass art has its own exhibition space next to the Fake Art, and the museum shop (which is freely accessible) features glass objects and glass jewellery for sale.

Goto del Maestro

Our collection includes a few dented glasses. Now what’s that all about? When glassblowers start their work in the morning, they first produce a sample glass. The glasses are placed on a table for cooling rather than in the cooling furnaces. If the glasses stay in one piece, then they know the furnace is ready for use. As soon as the maestro threw the glass over his shoulder, the working day had officially started. But then a few tourists started saying ‘Don’t throw it away, we want to buy it’. And now the glass has become a collector’s item: Goto del Maestro, the master’s cup.
