Temporary exhibitions by regional artists

Every year, Museum Valse Kunst organises several exhibitions. Artists from the region present their artworks in the exhibition room of our art museum in Vledder. During the official opening, you can meet the artists and they will provide background information about their work.

Exhibition Ger Eikendal

"Decaying beauty"

The images Ger Eikendal paints are not straightforward or obvious. Dilapidated buildings with their feet immersed in water, half-torn-off posters and large industrial buildings populate his canvases. His work tackles themes with socially relevant content. These can range from complex political theories to general, everyday events.

Ger Eikendal, born in Groningen in 1954, started drawing at an early age. After secondary school, he went on to study drawing and social studies at a teacher training college in Groningen. After his studies, Eikendal decided to pursue drawing permanently. He worked for various advertising agencies for a while before becoming a painter, aiming to express what is on his mind through his imagination. He wants to show people what he believes are the problems in the world.

Eikendal’s subjects are very diverse. The artist starts from the message he wants to convey and looks for the right image to match this message. Italy, with its specific architecture and scenery, is often a source of inspiration. Eikendal is an artist who shows both beauty and decay with great expressiveness in his work.

Ger Eikendal’s exhibition can be viewed at Museum Valse Kunst until 31 December 2022.
