Plenter’s Passion

The special ‘Plenter’s Passion’ gallery was created to reflect the unique origins of the Museum of Forged Art. Here, through objects, photographs, film footage, and stories, you can discover how the Plenter family’s collections came into being. In this space, the collections of contemporary glass art, art from Drenthe, and graphic art are exhibited together.

Contemporary Glass Art

In addition to its collection of forged art, the Museum of Forged Art houses a remarkable collection of contemporary European glass art dating from after 1945. On display are works from countries including the Netherlands, France, Italy, Poland, and Scandinavia. Particularly unique are the foreign glass objects that employ techniques rarely or never seen in Dutch glass art. A special feature of the collection is the “Goto del Maestro” series: trial pieces created by glassblowers that were once discarded but are now prized collector’s items, valued for their spontaneous forms and unique character.

Drenthe Art

The collection of art from Drenthe originated with Harm Hindrik Plenter, a great admirer of artists from the region. The portion inherited by his son, Henk Plenter, formed the foundation of a collection that was further expanded over the years. The museum displays works by renowned artists from Drenthe, including Louis Albert Roessingh, Jannes de Vries, Jan Zondag, Reinhart Dozy, Eugène Charmon (pseudonym of Jan Worst), Alphonse Stengelin, Albert Torie en Jan Wiegers.

Prints

Prints played a significant role in the formation of Henk Plenter’s collections. It was precisely because prints were accessible and affordable that his interest in collecting art grew. Although a large part of the print collection was deaccessioned after 2010, prints still hold an important place in the story of the museum and the Plenter family’s passion for collecting.
